Oshi No Ko Episode 2 Critique
Let’s get the elephant in the room out of the way- Oshi No Ko Episode 2 was not able to reach the heights that its predecessor had set. However, this doesn’t mean that the episode was disappointing in any way. In fact, it did an excellent job of setting up the rest of the story and progressing the narrative in a believable and meaningful way.
After the harrowing events of the first episode, the main characters had to recalibrate their goals and motivations. They are now driven by their desire to honor the memory of Ai, the beloved idol who was tragically taken from them. Even though she may not be physically present, her influence still dominates the show, and her fate drives the narrative forward.
Despite the absence of Ai, the episode manages to keep her memory alive through the characters’ interactions and memories of her. This is a testament to the strength of the writing and the emotional depth of the characters.

Oshi No Ko Episode 2 also delves deeper into the harsh realities of the idol industry, portraying the cutthroat competition and the sacrifices that aspiring idols must make to succeed. The episode follows the logical storyline of Aqua’s desire to keep Ruby away from the industry, as he himself has experienced its dark side.
Both Aqua and Ruby have inherited different qualities from Ai, the former possessing her mysterious demeanor and intelligence, while the latter inherits her looks and dancing abilities. While Ruby has much to offer, Aqua is undoubtedly the more capable of the two.
One aspect of the show that stands out is the attention given to the side characters. Miyako, the adoptive mother of the main characters, and Taishi, the director, both receive a significant amount of screen time in this episode. It’s refreshing to see these characters fleshed out and contributing to the story, especially given the tragedy that the main characters have already endured.
It’s important to note that not everyone in the show has suffered in the same way as the main characters. The show’s portrayal of their trauma is a stark reminder of how fortunate some of us are in life, and how we must appreciate what we have.

It’s always a treat to see a well-produced anime, and Oshi No Ko Episode 2 definitely delivers in that regard. Studio Doga Kobo continues to impress with their attention to detail and stunning visuals, especially when it comes to the main characters. Every frame featuring them is a work of art, and even the backgrounds are beautifully crafted.
One of the highlights of this episode was the introduction of the show’s opening theme. Yoasobi, the music duo responsible for it, did an amazing job. Oshi no Ko Episode 2: Verdict
Oshi no Ko Episode 2 was a solid continuation of the story, even though it didn’t quite match the intensity and mystery of the first episode. The episode’s primary task was to reorient the characters’ motivations, and it accomplished that task very well. The emphasis on the idol industry and the introduction of side characters were both great additions to the series.
Additionally, the production quality of the episode was top-notch, with Doga Kobo delivering beautiful animation and Yoasabi providing an outstanding opening theme.
All in all, if you enjoyed the first episode of Oshi no Ko, you will undoubtedly find Episode 2 just as engaging. It lays the groundwork for what is sure to be a compelling and exciting story.
